Levi’s Japan have started their Forever Blue initiative, and within this project is a flea market, titled “Blue Market”. It is a market where reused denim pants can be purchased for only 501 yen. For denim lovers, it is a perfect opportunity to dig around for a gem. This year it will be held at the Ebisu Garden Place, and the market will display more than 2,792 pairs of blues which had just been donated and collected few months ago. Another benefit of this movement is that proceeds from the denim sales will go to non-profit organizations. Also on display are some art works produced using denim. The event will take place from Saturday August 28th until 29th in Tokyo from 11am to 6pm.
Clot Inc continue their love affair with Levis to bring you their new Black Sun Survivor 505 denim jean. Label owner Edison Chen was recently spotted rocking these at the Juice x G-Shock Art Gallery launch, and now he's giving his fans the chance to own their very own pair. With 3M pops, distressed denim rips and python leather accents you can cop yours exclusively from all Juice stores from the 21st August.
Despite popular belief, luxury isn’t about money or wealth, and neither is it about details or status. Luxury, is about time. It is about having the freedom to manipulate time to the way which pleases you. Everyone is born with the same amount of time, but time is also a strange thing which bears different meaning to different people. For the affluent, time doesn’t have to be spent working for someone else, for the learned, time is best spent to make one’s life more fulfilling. Perhaps, in a material expression that time is luxury, watches have not only become a focus of craftsmanship, but also a status symbol. However, having a timepiece to keep tabs on the flow of time seems to simply point to a certain rush that operates against the concept that luxury is having infinite time and control over it. Thus, Maestro Knows, in his first foray into design, has partnered up with a Shayan Afshar, a young, up-and-coming jeweler who has already garnered an impressive clientele including the ever fashionable Kim Kardashian, to create the Inifinity Piece.
Denim is one of the few clothing pieces that managed to traverse trends, styles and boundaries of occasion. No matter who you are or what you do, chances are, you have a pair of jeans and you will wear it. With such great versatility, Levi’s has decided to take its denim and some other classic apparel pieces on a spin, going a little country, and a little bit rock and roll. For Levi’s STB Customized Collection, the label has opted for two of the greatest applications and influences for denim– rock and western, and embellished the classic items with studs and skulls.
Levi Maestro continues his tour of Tokyo, hooking in with skate buddies In4mation. Discussing the In4mants recent collaboration with G-Shock as well as chewing the fat about Japanese culture, catch these dudes cracking some (in)jokes and throwing down sick moves on the streets of Japan.
Approximately 67 miles away from London lies the city of Northampton, and in the town with a population measuring about 200,000, COMMONN quietly dresses the town with a carefully curated selection of labels such as Supra, Red Wing, Grenson, Trickers and Levi’s Vintage. Owner Mark Higgs, armed with good taste has recently collaborated with English label, House of Billiam to create two jackets inspired by Nike Air Max 90 Infrared.
In this video check out Maestro as he continues on his world tour in the spirit of this years 2010 World Cup, this leg stopping in Tokyo. First a quick conversation with Kazuki Kuraishi of Adidas ObyO, then off to adiCup to meet up with Daichi Ito. Enjoy!
Late last year we saw some men’s looks from the Levi’s X Gaultier denim collaboration and now we get a peek at the women’s. The bra top featured here is insanely iconic and speaks to the power of design to resonate through the decades and sometimes even centuries. If a designer can create even one signature look for which s/he is recognized through the ages, that has to be viewed as a dream-come-true achievement.
Shot over a two year period and spanning over 50 different countries, Takayuki Akachi’s Traveling Denim video is a comprehensive look into a pair of Levi’s. The video was done entirely in stop motion fashion. Throughout the travels and subsequent locations across the world, a progressive look into the denim’s fades and contrasts are documented as it also interjects the wearer’s travel experiences to create a fascinating piece of cinema.
All-American brand Lee’s biggest competitor, Levi’s, is many miles ahead in the game of positioning itself as a hip brand via collabos (I mean, when was the last time you saw a fashion savvy person in Lee jeans?), but this collabo Lee is doing with Vivienne Westwood, called “Lee Anglomania” gains it some points. From what I can make out from the German press release, the collabo launches this July and will feature jeans in a variety of cuts, plus hot pants, and will be sold online at ZapposCouture, Net-A-Porter and Asos, among others. More images after the flip.
Not too long ago, when Freshness had a chance to chat with Levi Maestro of Maestro Knows and attempted to get the self-taught videographer/skateboarding whiz to hint at what he will be up to this year, Maestro clandestinely asked if we liked soccer. At that time, we thought “Of course! Who doesn’t? With the World Cup coming up and all.” Then, we bumped into Maestro at adiCup New York City last weekend, and we realized, so this is what that question was about.
Levi Maestro’s most recent stop takes him to New York City for a slew of activities. On the list of stops are Complex Magazine headquarters, a preview of the Three Days in Paris photo exhibition at Milk Studios by Philip Andelman and finally an extensive recap of the New York City leg of adiCup 2010.
This may not be jeans, or even in a great pun, the new blues. But, heritage denim label, Levi’s is on to something interesting with the new Pioneer Sessions campaign. For this campaign, Levi’s enlisted the help of 12 important names in music across different genres ranging from hip-hop to pop, from rock to soul… to cover a classic track in their own signature style. First up is rapper Nas who had taken on Slick Rick’s “Hey Young World”, which Nas commented was a song everyone can relate to. The tracks are available for download at Levi’s, so check out the video, the track, and store it on your iPod.
