Nike and Wieden+Kennedy continue the Write the Future campaign in the heart of Johannesburg, on one of its tallest structures in fact. Each night the Life Centre skyscraper is illuminated through scads of LED lights, displaying the face of that day’s hero and a relevant headline, both selected by, conceivably, you. To pick the athlete and phrase that will grace the building, simply use the #NikeFuture Twitter hashtag or use the Facebook app. If you’re idea is selected, Nike will send you a photo of the building featuring your picks.

A strong crowd of close a thousand people were on hand for this year’s adiCup London leg. With typical unpredictable weather British weather, the final featured a meeting between the British Fashion Council and Metalheadz United. United ran out winners with a thorough 5-1 thrashing of their opponents with an after-party held at Somerset house. To compliment all the football action was a presentation of the Votary city pack of shoes, bags and kits as well as large-scale shots of the adiCup girls.
QUBIC out of New Zealand got into the festive spirit as they revamped their store to reflect the current participation of their beloved Kiwis at the 2010 World Cup. Earning its first ever point at the World Cup thanks to a last gasp equalizer from Winston Reid in the 93rd minute, the country has much to be proud as a nation of 4 million cheered on. In an installation titled “Flight of the Underdogs”, QUBIC was transformed to feature the Nike Sportswear “True Colors” collection as well as having a two-man foosball tourney in the spirits of the World Cup. Rounding out the project was the creation of a limited run of dog-tags featuring a bulldog to coincide with the “Flight of the Underdogs” theme. Well Drogba will try to use his publicity for a good thing during the World Cup as well, continuing his support of Nike(RED) which is intended to put an end to AIDS. Franck Ribéry may be a hotbed for criticism at the moment, but in the latest Nike “Write the Future” ad, “Leave the Past Behind,” he brushes it all of, assuring us that the pitch will be his judge.
As part of the Nike “Write the Future” ad campaign promoting the World Cup, Wieden+Kennedy put together a beautiful press kit including imagery and text from and about the campaign. The pièce de résistance however, is the set of crayon sculptures hand-carved by artist Diem Chau, each representing a player on a World Cup roster. This is the definition of Art in Advertising. Young footballers in Soweto, South Africa get to partake in something special with the opening of a world class training facility created by Nike. It boasts state of the arts amenities that include four pitches, a club house decorated with various football team jerseys, athletic apparel, and pictures of football stars who’ve also imparted words of inspiration on the centre’s walls; wisdom that will look to hopefully keep the kids on a positive track and give them something to strive towards. Every year 20,000 kids will have the opportunity to develop and hone their skills here. As well, they will also be granted access to expert training by internationally renowned South African footballers like Eric Tinkler and Shaun Bartlett. The centre also aims to educate young people about HIV/Aids through life skills programmes. As well, a permanent blood testing clinic has been set up at the premises, which follows Nike’s partnership with (RED) through the “Lace Up, Save Lives” campaign. adidas Football’s World Cup 2010 campaign comes full-circle with the unveiling of its “The Quest” video. Concluding the “Every Team Needs” graphic-novel video series, The Quest features a high-profile roster of footballing superstars making appearances including Zinedine Zidane, Leo Messi of Argentina as “The Spark”, Steven Gerrard of England as “The Power House”, Kaka of Brazil as “The Maestro” and Xavi of Spain as “The General” among others. The Quest also has a further part to it as a special Facebook page allows fans to converge and vote on “Match-ups” each game.
The German round of the ongoing adiCup was held recently at Wrangelstr, Berlin. After a slice of controversy, ANDREAS MÜHE were declared the winners ahead of 361 WILLEMSBURG and Bar 25 in front of over 1000 people.
